This is one of the most unusual and most enjoyable restaurants in the country and, although a little out of the way, is certainly worth the effort to seek out. Mohammed and Parveen Siddique bought Thornbury Hall and its considerable grounds in 1990 and, after considerable work, opened their excellent wood-panelled restaurant in 1994. You approach though landscaped gardens and flowing water to a graciousness remeniscent of times gone by. A staff of 18 run the restaurant and cater for 140 diners with some excellent Pakistani-style cuisine created by Chef D. Vassaramo. 'Best in Britain Award 2001 & 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007

The Lodge Cottage
Birmingham Road,
Shenstone Wood End
WS14 0LQ

Owners Jamal and Imam Uddin opened this ex gardening centre not far from Lichfield in July 1996 and often refer to it as Lodge Balti, although it is as far removed from a conventional balti as one can imagine. It is BYO but this seems to attract the customers who have their favourite tipple served in style. 10 very smart waiters serve just 70 covers with superquick service and diners can relax in the comfortable syurroundings and enjoy the food prepared by chef Anis Miah. The whole atmosphere is stylish and smart and it is not surprising The Lodge is receiving rave reviews. 'Best in Britain Award 2000'
