Since opening in 1985 Emdad Rahman and his chef brother Enam have made this restaurant one of the most talked about outside London for the quality and innovative style of its food. People don't come here and ask for curry house dishes - instead they enjoy Ros Tos Crab and Chicken Cafriel and other tasty offerings. The restaurant only has 56 covers and is very popular so booking is advised despite the unlikely location.
If you live within striking range watch out for the regular festivals giving you the chance to try regional dishes. Very friendly and a must visit. Recently completely re-furbished to a very high standard and run by Amin Rahman.

Owner Rashid Ali opened the Dewaniam (called the geranium by some locals) in 1979 and was one of the great innovators of the time introducing dishes not previously seen on most Indian menus.
In 1994 they suffered from an unsolved arson attack by the restaurant rose phoenix like from the ashes to provide its many fans with even better food and service. Duck, venison, hare, brains all find a place on the menu as well as most popular dishes that bring diners back time and again. With 94 covers the restaurant is always decorated to a high standard and service is extremely friendly.'Best in Britain Nomination 1999 & 2000'

Bengal Clipper was opened in summer 1994 as the flagship of a group of two, which now numbers four to include Bengal Trader and Bengal Mangrove. Owned by Mukit Choudhury with the original menu created by Executive Chef Azam Khan. The 175 cover restaurant on the banks of the Thames is highly regarded by most food critics and even highly ranked by Michelin. The decor is modern and in line with its "Clipper" theme with a large bar area and even a piano to provide that relaxed mood.
