From: Tommy.Tennant of Glasgow - Subject: Curry Capital of Britain 2011
It's got to be Glasgow.
Hot to Cold, Thick to Thin
Never mind the weather as long as we're together.
There is a curry and a curry experience at every street corner
in Glasgow.
Glasgow - Proud Host City of the 2014 Commonwealth Games |
CURRY CAPITAL OF BRITAIN 2010

The Lord Provost oof Glasgow Bob Winter with representatives of
the the winning restaurant team.

POPULATION : 588,395 approx (2010) 5.4% of the
population is non-white of which 3.4%

minorities living in Scotland will almost quadruple by 2051,
according to new projections.
Glasgow has long been established as an excellent
place to live, work, rest and play. As a major European cultural
capital, it is also a great place to visit.
Glasgow has a vibrant nightlife where one can visit
any number of restaurants, pubs, clubs and cafes in the city. For a
more restful pace there are 13 free museums and galleries to choose
from and with over 70 parks and gardens spread across the city you
are sure to find your own personal oasis.
You can also take advantage of the excellent
transport network of trains, buses and the underground that can take
you to places such as beautiful Pollok Park in the south or
breathtaking Loch Lomond in the north in under an hour.
Visit Glasgow and you will be in no doubt why the
City was awarded the prestigious accolade of UK City of Architecture
and Design 1999.
Marvel at the outstanding works of Charles Rennie
Mackintosh including the House for an Art Lover in Bellahouston Park
and Scotland Street School located south of the river in the Kinning
Park area of the city and right in the heart of the city you can see
his works at the Willow Tea Rooms in Sauchiehall Street.
Alexander Greek Thomson was another who managed to
add his signature to the face of the city that many would be proud
of. One of his finest works is the Caledonia Road Church at the
Gorbals and closer to the City you can find the Buck's Head Building
on Argyle Street.
At the east of the City Centre you will be able to
see the outstanding medieval Glasgow Cathedral at Cathedral Square
where you can also see the Saint Mungo Museum of Religious Life &
Art which, contrary to its appearance was built in the 1990s.
Wander round the City and you will see a multitude
of outstanding buildings and structures including:
Glasgow Necropolis
St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art
The McLennan Arch
The Peoples Palace and Winter Gardens
The City Chambers
Glasgow's River Clyde Bridges
Kibble Palace Glasshouse
The Doulton Fountain

Voting for the Glasgow team was quite amazing again in 2011 with
votes for 78 different restaurants, the largest number yet. There
were large numbers of votes for many restaurants not quite making the
team and it is hoped they will continue to support the event by
raising donations for The Curry Tree Charitable Fund to help their
city's claim to yet another title.
Some other well supported Glasgow restaurants
: Balbirs, Mother India, Urban Pind, Mother India Cafe, Mr Singh's,
