The event was first held in 2000/2001 with the final as part of the Ethnic Food & Drink Show at NEC Birmingham in June. On that day London West was chosen as The Curry Capital of Britain 2001 by a panel of expert judges and Veena Verma became the first Taj Spicemaster in an exciting cook-off. The winning team was : La Porte des Indes, W1 : Monty's Ealing : Chor Bizarre W1 : Malabar Junction
