Ahmed Chowdhury's flagship has long been one of the
premier Indian restaurants in the West Country since opening in 1980.
The restauyrant was once described as an 'Aladdins Cave' which is a
fair description. You enter at ground floor level and descend to a
series of 'caves' that make up the dining rooms for the 92 covers
serviced by a kitchen staff of five. The bar is bright with sparkling
lights and dazzling brasses not to mention several awards. Such
guests as Ravi Shankar and Sir Anthony Hopkins have enjoyed its food
and atmosphere and Mr Chowdhury is also a leading light for
charitable causes as well as being a Justice of the Peace and owning
Bengali newspaper Potrika. Voted Les Routiers Restaurant of the Year
1998. Mr Chowdhury was 'BIBA Personality of the Year 1997'.
